Andy Barrie

Andy Barrie is the host of CBC Radio One's morning show, Metro Morning.

Barrie was born in Baltimore, Maryland.

During the Vietnam war, Barrie became a conscientious objector.

Trained as a combat medic, he received orders to be shipped to Vietnam. In 1969, Andy chose to come north to Canada instead of going to South East Asia and the war.

He later received a general discharge from the U.S. Army and became a Canadian citizen.

Following gigs at CJAD Radio in Montreal and at CFRB in Toronto plus a short while reporting and anchoring for Global Television, Barrie joined CBC Radio in 1995.

He had been on indefinite leave of absence from Metro Morning to attend to a family health matter.

Andy's wife passed away on February 18, 2009.

He returned to air on March 9, 2009.
