UCSC offers a variety of housing options for students and faculty, including non-standard housing options both on and off campus.

College-Affiliated Housing

For more on the college system, see UCSC Colleges. Most of the UCSC undergraduate housing is affiliated with one of the ten residential colleges. Each college has a unique residential atmosphere. Occasionally students may be permitted to reside at a college they are not affiliated with, but doing so is not very common. The ten colleges are:

Residence Halls

The residence halls, which include both shared and private rooms, typically house fifteen to twenty students per floor and have common bathrooms and lounge areas. Virtual tours are available for viewing campus residence halls.

Some students live on coed floors where men and women share bathroom facilities. Some students live on coed floors with separate bathroom facilities for men and women, and any student may request a single-gender floor.

Nine of the colleges have both residence halls and apartments, while Kresge College is all apartments.

Each resident is provided a single bed, a desk, a chair, a small chest of drawers, closet space, shelving, and draperies. You will need to bring your own linens, desk lamp, clock, and other personal items essential to your daily life.

Campus Apartments

Apartments, which are shared by four to seven students, have common living/dining rooms, kitchens and bathrooms, and a combination of shared and private bedrooms.

Apartments at Cowell, Stevenson, Crown, Merrill, Oakes, Porter College, College Eight, College Nine, and College Ten are generally reserved for students above the freshman level. At Kresge first-year students are housed in the apartments, most often in shared rooms. Virtual tours available for viewing campus apartments. QuickTime software required - it's free.

A Private room within the apartment may be available for transfer and continuing students.

Be sure to check out Housing and Theme Options to learn more about your housing options.
