And it is hereby stipulated covenanted and agreed by and between the said parties hereto that the said Vendor shall not be at liberty to, and he hereby binds and obliges himself not to engage in any Boot and Shoe Business, either in Manufacturing or Selling to conflict or compete with the said purchaser […] which said agreement and covenant shall be strictly observed in every particular as being the well and understood basis of the present sale […] ». Morrill souhaite sécuriser son investissement en interdisant la concurrence éventuelle de Brodie. Le lot est vendu pour la somme de 6 000 dollars.
