Charles Augustus Stuart Sr. was born in Powhatan in 1841. He married Martha DeArman (daughter of John DeArman Sr.) He had two sons, Charles August Stuart Jr. and Cicero Terry Stuart.

Personal Life

C.A. Stuart was the son of prominent merchant Champ T. Stuart. He was the brother of Frank C. Stuart, Pittman Cicero Stuart, Henrietta Stuart, Mary Stuart and Champ Terry Stuart.

He married Martha Elise DeArman in 1870. They had five children including:

  • Gertrude Stuart (1852-1910)
  • Clara Stuart (1870-1940)
  • Addie Stuart (1872-1895)
  • Charlie A Stuart (1877)
  • Cicero Terry Stuart (1880-1958)

 

He served in the Civil War as captain of Company 1, Morgan's regiment, Cabell's brigade. He was made captain by special order after the battle of Mark's Mill. He served as sheriff of Lawrence County for two terms. 1

He served as sheriff.

His daughters Clara and Addie attended school in 1887 in Searcy.3

He was a merchant and postmaster in 1910.

He died in 1912 after an illness. He was buried at the Powhatan cemetery.2 He lived in Powhatan until his death.
