The Lancaster family came to Oakland from Gold Hill, Nevada.
Henry Kent Lancaster (1848 – 1897) and Ellen Louisa Hall (Lancaster) (1851 – 1926) were born in New Hampshire, and married November 9, 1869. By 1877, they had moved to Gold Hill, Nevada, where sons William and Clarence were born. They came to Oakland by 1897; Henry died here on June 9, 1897. He may have been interred in Mountain View Cemetery, 1 or his remains may have been returned to New Hampshire for burial near his parents. [ NB: Given the cost of shipping in 1897, I suspect the marker in New Hampshire is a cenotaph, and Henry's remains are in Oakland. ]
William Joseph Lancaster (1877 – 1945) married Emma Frances Orton (Lancaster) on September 8, 1903, and they had 2 children, Kent Orton Lancaster and Jacqueline Dora Lancaster (Larson). William is listed as a machinist in the 1900 and 1920 censuses. In 1930 and 1940 he was a foreman of a machine shop. Kent died from injuries sustained in a car crash near home on January 1, 1941. 4 William died in 1945 and is interred in Mountain View Cemetery with Emma and Kent.
Clarence Henry Lancaster (1880 – 1961) married Bertha Irene Bouterions (Lancaster) on September 28, 1903. Bertha died in 1911 of tuberculosis. Clarence then married Daisy M. Le Prince (Lancaster), and they had a son, Gordon Henry Lancaster. Clarence is listed as a hardware salesman in the 1900 census. In 1920 and 1930 he's listed as manager for sporting goods with Maxwell Hardware, and mentioned in articles in 1923 and 1935. 2,5
William and Clarence ran Lancaster's Sporting Goods together for a number of years, c.1910.
