April Sinclair (born April 8, 1954) is an Oakland-based best-selling author known for her books about young black women coming of age.
Sinclair was born in Illinois, and grew up on Chicago's South Side, where several of her books are set. She has lived in Chicago, San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, and Woodacre. She served as director of the Emergency Food Coalition (dissolved 1999), and taught at Oakland's Read-A-Lot program. 1
