Confederation Square is the former location of Mississauga's town hall and central library, before the town bought into locating the new downtown around the future Square One on farmland owned by The McLaughlin Group.

In 1971, the town hall moved to the original 1 City Centre Drive. A design competition was held for a new city hall, and Mississauga Civic Centre at 300 City Centre Drive opened as the new city hall in 1984. The central library stayed at Confederation Square until the new one at 301 Burnhamthorpe Road opened in 1992. The parcel is now owned by The Conservatory Group, and the buildings have been demolished to make space for a new condominium development.
