Take Advantage of ALL TA Office Hours for your Course

  • Many lower division lectures are very large, and so have many graduate student teaching assistants assigned to the course. Students can usually go to multiple TA office hours, not just their own, and the graduate students usually don't care and even don't know if you're in their section. Granted, some graduate students are terrible at teaching, or don't care at all about helping students, but usually there is at least one helpful graduate student TA in every lower division course.

Private Tutors

  • CLAS Staff and Student Tutors - This is a great resource for any of the courses that CLAS supports, as well as courses like Math 8, PSTAT 120AB, and other upper division courses in math, physics, chemistry, pstat, economics, etc. The student tutors, and especially the staff employees, really know their stuff. However, if you want to solicit a private CLAS tutor, don't ask while they're working. A CLAS tutor setting up private tutoring while they're working is considered a conflict of interest by the university. (The tutor could get fired.) But, asking when they're not working is perfectly fine with the university.

  • ONDAS Tutors - Another great resource for private tutoring. Similar to CLAS, the tutors are hired based on their proficiency in a undergraduate course. ONDAS student tutors won't be nearly as good as the CLAS staff employees, but ONDAS student tutors are just as good as CLAS student tutors. ONDAS also supports a wider range of courses than CLAS, so if you're looking for a Math 8, psych, or communication tutor, ONDAS is a good place to look.
