History:

            The Elliott University Center is a large structure situated near the center of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s campus. The Center was originally opened in 1953 as the Elliott Student Union, named after Harriet Wiseman Elliott, who had attended the university beginning in 1913 as a history and political science major and who would go on to serve as the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Dean of Women from 1935 to 1947.

            Later, in April of 1974, the building would be renamed the Elliott University Center and then undergo extensive renovations from 2003-2006 that have given the Center its present layout and appearance.

            Currently, the Elliott University Center functions as “a welcoming hub of campus life” intended to foster diversity and inclusion for the university’s entire student body. It also serves as the university’s central location for community events like blood drives or job fairs.

Services:

            The Elliott University Center hosts 24 different venues for meetings, ceremonies and classrooms as well as several outdoor locations also available to students, faculty and renters.

The Center is also home to the university’s central bookstore which sells course materials, as well as university memorabilia.

            The building plays host to several offices for university departments, honors societies and social clubs based on UNCG’s main campus. Further, the university’s offices for student employment as well as development programs for the broader Greensboro community facilitated by the university are located at the Center.

            Numerous dining locations are also found at the Elliott University Center, including:

  • The Center’s Food court found on the main level
  • A Barnes and Noble Café on the main level
  • The EUC Market on the main level
  • A Chick-fil-A location on the ground floor
  • Outdoor seating and isolated benches arranged around the Center

            The Elliott University Center is open:

  • Mondays - Thursdays from 7am-11pm
  • Fridays from 7am-10pm
  • Saturdays from 8am-10pm
  • Sundays from 10am-10pm
