The juvenile detention facility is the temporary detention and treatment facility in and for Yolo County for minors who have been charged with a violation of the law or who have violated conditions of probation. It is a division of the Probation Department but operated under the authority and regulations of the California Welfare and Institutions Code, California Penal Code and the California Administrative Code. Mandates include that the facility shall not be treated as a jail, prison, or penal institution and shall be operated in all respects as nearly like a home as possible.

In general, juvenile hall staff is responsible for booking decisions, admissions procedures, and the daily care and custody of minors housed in the facility.
