Defunct Attica Bank

Operated: (1879-1881)

Overview

In its 3 years of operation The Attica National Bank of Attica, charter number 2437, printed $50,000 dollars worth of national currency. This bank printed 2 types of national currency, $10 & $20 dollar bills in the series of 1875 national bank notes.

The notes that bank printed would have looked like the notes below but instead of First National Bank of Newark it would read The Attica National Bank of Attica.

Series of 1875 $10 National Bank Note

The Attica National Bank of Attica printed 1,000 sheets of this $10 series of 1875 national bank notes. The two vignettes seen on 1875 $10 bank notes are “Franklin and Electricity” and “America Seizing Lightning”. These notes are occasionally confused because the year 1752 is printed on them. It is printed on the note because that is the year Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity. It has nothing to do with when these bank notes were issued. This is be Ben Franklin's first appearance on a US bank note.

The back of each $10 bill features “Hernando DeSoto Discovering the Mississippi” by William H. Powell.

Series of 1875 $20 National Bank Note

The Attica National Bank of Attica printed 1,000 sheets of $20 series of 1875 national bank notes.

The back features "The Baptism of Pocahontas" by John G. Chapman.
