Evidence for mallards in Ann Arbor

A pair of mallard ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) was again seen in the waters of the pond. The female is a well-camouflaged brown in color. Males are the pretty birds, with green or even purple heads. This species of bird can be seen worldwide and might help to explain how some of our aquatic invertebrates arrived after the pond was created by a giant ice chunk falling off a retreating glacier some 14,000 years ago.
