Manifesto Bicycles was a small bike shop in the 40th Street business corridor between the Temescal and Mosswood neighborhoods of North Oakland.  They carried a variety of bicycles and associated gear. They also provided moderately priced excellent repair and maintenance service.  While they carried all types of bikes, they specialize in urban commuting steel bikes suited for the urban terrain of Oakland.  The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about all bike related topics, and they're not trying to just get as much money as possible from their customers; in fact, they provided free maintenance and repair (except flats) on all bikes purchased from them.

Awards

Manifesto was the recipient of the East Bay Express Best Bike Shop Readers' Poll Award in 2014.

Won 2014 "Readers' Choice" Best Bike Shop in Oakland Magazine.

Update: In 2012, Manifesto and Subrosa Coffee jointly built the 40th Street Webster Parklet.

Mission

"We are: a couple of Oaklanders who decided to open a different kind of bike shop. We are: part of a growing bike shop cartel - operating under the assumption that more bike shops in a city is a good thing. We are: looking forward to a time when every neighborhood has a local bike shop instead of three nail salons. We are: Sam, the Sacto skateboarder, herpetologist and bike recycler and Miss MacKay, the music fanatic with a passion for vintage everything and a nose for business.
